During his period as city composer of Tilburg, Leeuwis focused on a number of themes: transience, inspiration and rituals. The church organ is the instrument par excellence that connects these themes. After all, it is located in places that are dedicated to transience and are imbued with rituals.

For this piece Leeuwis made field recordings of the organ in the Heuvelkerk in Tilburg. Instead of focusing on defined notes, the operation of the organ is central to the music, for example by cutting off the air supply or turning it on extra. The recordings of the organ were then cut up by Leeuwis and Den Duijf in the Het Concreet-studio, extended and slowed down, creating large sound clouds that slowly shift; it seems as if they are standing still, yet are constantly moving.

The manipulated organ sounds from the Heuvelkerk enter into a dialogue with the acoustics of the Mariakerk. The recordings are played through a quadraphonic speaker system that is spatially placed in the church. The musicians of Ensemble VONK move through the church and between the speakers while playing.

The recording was made for and premiered on Concertzender. It is hard to capture such spatial pieces in one stereo image, but Kees van de Wiel managed to achieve a rich and honest representation of the piece.
