STUDIO LISTENING SESSION: ARMENO ALBERTS
MASTER TAPES & CONTEXT
On the 15th of March we start a new series of live events: the Master Tape Listening Sessions. Over the past few years, more and more master tapes of electronic music have been arriving at our studio. Time and again we have been impressed by the quality of the pieces, recordings and ideas on these tapes. But what is most striking is that so much electronic music has been made that will never be heard again. With these listening sessions we want to share the experience of listening to an original tape on good sounding equipment.
Our first guest is Armeno Alberts. Composer, radio producer, pianist and endless enthusiast of electronic music. The piece Alberts will be performing is "De Plagen" (1997 - 1999). This piece was originally developed as a visual concert together with his brother and visual artist Marcel Alberts. The piece was inspired by the imaginary soundscapes of the biblical story of the 10 plagues. Originally it was performed with a self-developed stringed instrument: 10 columns strung with strings and connected to electronics that acted as a mixing board with alternative faders to play the composition. For the concert in Tilburg on 15 March, only the 4-channel tape will be used. Alberts will perform the piece through a traditional mixer. We will provide calibrated machines, master tapes, context and a drink.
