Klank&Komma is a six-day writing lab where cultural journalists, essayists, and creative writers, led by author and audio director Leonieke Baerwaldt, will search for their own writing voice in a critique of sound. Sound—not necessarily music—can take on colors, shapes, textures, ideas, and feelings. The experience of sound is deeply personal: sound doesn’t tell you what it’s about, what to think about, or what to feel. Anything is allowed. Sound demands nothing from the listener, but can become anything.

So how do you write about sound? In Klank&Komma, we explore this question by listening to diverse soundscapes during concerts and workshops, by listening, writing, and reading. Over six days, we will work towards personal essays that explore this uncharted territory. The results will be published in or on the contemporary music magazine Gonzo (circus).

Participants in 2023 were Arthur Kok, Elisabeth Salverda, Martien van Agtmaal, Inge Janse, Liesbeth Vreeburg, Sandra de Jong and Anneroos Goosen.
