We invite composer/performer and author Nic Collins for a tape head hacking workshop. Having worked with John Cage, Alvin Lucier, David Tudor and many others, Nic is now professor in the Department of Sound at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and Research Fellow at the Orpheus Institute in Ghent. He wrote ‘DIY bible’ Handmade Electronic Music, which is a practical and engaging introduction of making – as well as cannibalizing – electronic circuits for artistic purposes. During the 3-hour workshop, we will break down tape recorders to extract the tape heads so we can create handheld tape devices in a DIY circuit.
