Luca Soudant is a PhD researcher funded by the Dutch Research Council (NWO). They are a cultural studies scholar, artist, DJ (ADIË) and critical practice educator at Maastricht Institute of Arts. Luca holds a research master’s degree in Cultural Analysis from the University of Amsterdam and a master’s degree in Critical Studies from the Sandberg Institute. From 2023 to 2024, they were a participant at the post-academic Jan van Eyck Academy in Maastricht. Luca’s research combines academic scholarship with artistic practice and is situated at the intersection of gender studies, posthumanist feminism and sound studies. In their practice, they study how gender is culturally (per)formed through sound in-between humans and objects (think of tapping high heels and growling motor engines). Beyond researching binary gender dynamics, they inquire the possibilities of sound to set matter in motion as a way to trouble traditional perspectives on matter, meaning and, most importantly, their entanglements.
