OPEN MONUMENTENDAG AT HAGEMEIER GLASS STUDIO
SITE SPECIFIC COMPOSITION
During Open Monument Days 2025, on Saturday 13 and Sunday 14 September, the Padua Church in Tilburg will open its doors to the public. This impressive building, constructed in 1910, is a unique architectural gem, blending elements of both Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Byzantine styles. It was built using bricks from the former brick factory located across from the church. Visitors can admire the richly decorated interior with its colourful glass dome, paintings from different periods and various stained-glass windows.
Since 1999, the church has been owned by Glasatelier Hagemeier, a company specialising in the restoration and creation of stained glass. During Open Monument Days, the studio's glassworks will be on display, including designs by renowned artists such as Charles Eyck, Jan Toorop, Jeroen Henneman and Jan Dibbets. There will also be a concise exhibition featuring choir windows, working drawings and repurposed windows. "The Padua Church is not only a monument in itself, but also a place where new monumental heritage is created," says Stef Hagemeier.
On both days at 3 p.m., Het Concreet will give a live performance. Together with composer Jorn Jaap Prenger, they are working on a piece that takes the acoustics of the church and the materiality of glass as its starting point. While Prenger focuses on analysing space and preparing string instruments, Het Concreet develops sounds from glass and tape.
