(The merry-go-round)
La Giostra di Jules e Mosie is a composition by Mathijn den Duijf, a musical merry-go-round created in celebration of the birth of siblings Jules (2018) and Mosie (2021). La Giostra consists of two mirroring parts.
MATHIJN DEN DUIJF: "La Giostra di Jules e Mosie was originally created as a simple composition for piano solo. Later I edited the piece by adding new lines (see score) and rhythmic interaction of tightly tuned tape delays. As a result, the harmonies have mainly become sound associations and there is, albeit shifting, a clear heartbeat. The version to be heard here is performed with piano, but the composition can also be played in an arrangement for 1 double bass, 1 marimba, 5 brass instruments and 7 tape delays."
"The Italian 'la giostra' means 'the carousel' and the title (thus) refers to the composition techniques used with tape loops. La Giostra di Jules e Mosie is part of a series of compositions that are always dedicated to people important to me."
