On Thursday evening, April 16, Het Concreet honors Composition 1960 #7 by minimal music pioneer and Fluxus proponent La Monte Young during Roadburn Offroad. The performance explores the experience of sound and time by sustaining two notes for a long time. They constitute an exercise in attention, reflection, and patience.
The performance takes place in the St. Joseph Church on the Heuvel, right next to Poppodium 013, where Roadburn visitors, churchgoers, and concertgoers gather. The piece will be performed continuously for three hours, during which visitors are free to enter and exit and find their own place in the sound universe.
Composition 1960 #7 consists of two notes that appear to stand still but open up a landscape of micro-variations and slow dynamics that is as rich as it is constricting. The performance in the St. Joseph Church explores sound as duration – not as event, not as melodic or rhythmic information, but as condition. Sound that exists as the air exists: unbegun, infinite, itself. With Mathijs Leeuwis on pedal steel guitar and electronics, Mathijn den Duijf on tape and electronics, Bram Stadhouders on electric guitar, Jacqueline Hamelink on cello, and Anneroos Goosen on harmonium. The performance starts at 19:00h, ends at 22:00h, and is free for everyone to attend.
