Sounds of beauty and resistance: build your own radio receiver with Het Concreet during Cultura Nova and participate in sonic resistance.

Radio waves are all around us. They travel through the earth’s ionosphere, ranging in size from a few millimeters to thousands of kilometers. They transmit information: voices, sounds, Morse codes, even clock times. These waves are not man-made. They are a physical phenomenon, caused by the earth’s electromagnetic fields. A natural resource.

Today, we are dependent in many ways on communication technologies that are not natural, but certainly not neutral either. The call to fill our emergency kits with analog radio receivers makes palpable how vulnerable we are in the hands of technology makers. But we turn vulnerability into our strength: during Cultura Nova, we will build our own radio receivers to receive sounds of beauty and resistance.

On Saturday, September 5, build your own radio transmitter together with Het Concreet at the RD4U thrift store, and participate in a collective, enclosed performance. Het Concreet broadcasts found sounds from the cycle, and with our self-built radios, we become a collective ear listening to what is happening through the space journey.
