The studio as a compositional tool exposes a working attitude that gives the composer/performer the freedom to exert unlimited influence on the end result: not by devising a composition in advance, but by doing, experimenting and playing with the studio, sounds are created. The idea of the studio as a compositional tool was launched by Brian Eno in a 1979 lecture, and inspires Het Concreet to pose the question: can we sit back and surrender ourselves to a creative process? Composer Anthony Fiumara will give a lecture about the development of the studio as a refuge for experiment. Aafke Romeijn presents new experimental work made during a residency at Het Concreet. Later in the afternoon, Aafke, Anthony and Mathijn den Duijf will discuss suspending your expectations in a composition process. An ode to the studio as a refuge for experiment.
